Meet Dr. Todd Pierce
Dr. Todd Pierce is an anthropologist with a PhD from The Catholic University of America (2011), a Masters from Yale University (1995), and a BA from The University of Connecticut (1993).
Dr. Pierce's formal teaching experience includes The University of Stockholm, The Catholic University of America, and thirteen years as Director of The Isla Mujeres Ethnographic Field School.
Todd has conducted ethnographic field work for over 30 years in the United States and abroad, and now lives full-time on the island of Isla Mujeres, Mexico.
His past research included time with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Hispanic Health Council, and focused on myriad complex sociology and anthropology issues. These issues include social network analysis, ethics in anthropology, ethnographic method development and ethnographic representation, HIV-AIDS (transmission and prevention), drug use and misuse, harm reduction, homelessness, poverty, violence (structural, symbolic, political, everyday, gender and orientation based, community and family violence), childhood sexual abuse, and rape.
Todd's primary research areas included Washington, DC (18 years), Hartford, CT [(5 years), Isla Mujeres Mexico (12 years) and New York City (1 year) in addition to other locations.
He has conducted pilot research in Chicago, Stockholm, Reykjavik, Prague, Jamaica, Belize, Honduras and Mexico (Quintana Roo and Yucatan)
